The UK's Express tabloid has created something of a stir with a report that actress Jennifer Aniston will soon be joining the cast of Days of our Lives. The report, however, is based in as much fact as some of daytime's crazy storylines. A show rep has called the tabloid's report untrue. Had Aniston's appearance become a reality, it would have marked the first time that Aniston and her father, John Aniston (Victor Kiriakis), had appeared on-screen together.
Though NBC has already greenlighted Days of our Lives through September 2013 and a network executive recently expressed that NBC was "happy" with DAYS's performance, the Express cited unnamed network sources as having indicated that DAYS will be canceled -- and that Aniston's cameo on the soap was designed to boost ratings and save her dad's job.
"John is thrilled at the prospect of working alongside his daughter for the first time," the Express reported. "He didn't approach her, though. The show's executive producers did because John didn't want to put Jen under pressure."
John Aniston has appeared on Days of our Lives for more than 24 years, appearing in some 1,200 episodes during that time.
According to several other published reports that ran with the story, Aniston was prepared to work for the same amount as any other day player -- about $650 per day. By comparison, Aniston has raked in over $20 million this year alone from her work in feature films such as Horrible Bosses and Just Go With It.
The Express also offered details of what Aniston's stint on DAYS would encompass, saying that the actress would play a wedding planner for her dad's on-screen wedding.
"Lovely thought, but no," co-executive producer Greg Meng told Soap Opera Digest. A spokesperson for the actress also denied that Aniston would be headed to Salem, telling E! News that there is "no truth to the rumors."
