All My Children alum Michael B. Jordan (ex-Reggie Montgomery) is earning rave reviews for his work in the new feature film, Fruitvale Station.

Fruitvale Station is based on the true story of 22-year-old Bay Area resident Oscar Grant, played by Jordan, whose shooting death in the early hours of January 1, 2009, sparked protests in and around Oakland, California.

Oscar awoke on December 31, 2008, with plans to start his New Year's resolutions early. They included being a better son to his mother, being a better partner to his girlfriend, and being a better father to his 4-year-old daughter. Change, however, would not come easy. As the movie progresses, Oscar crosses paths with friends, family, and strangers, each exchange showing that there is much more to Oscar than meets the eye.

While riding on a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) train in the height of New Year's Eve celebrations, a fight ensued... and ultimately, without giving away the details of the story, Oscar was shot and killed by a BART Police officer.

Fruitvale Station was the winner of the "Best First Film" award at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. It also received the "Audience Award: Dramatic" and "Grand Jury Prize" at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.

Jordan appeared on All My Children from January 2003 to June 2006. During his AMC run, Jordan was twice nominated for an NAACP Image Award.

Since leaving daytime, Jordan has gone on to star in the primetime series Friday Night Lights and Parenthood. He's also in the movie Red Tails.

Fruitvale Station opens in select cities on July 12 and nationwide on July 26. The official trailer for the film can be seen below.

On July 9, Jordan appeared on ABC's The View, which is taped in the same building as All My Children had been filmed. In the video below, the actor reflected on his old stomping grounds.
